About the project

A team of Times-Shamrock Newspapers reporters and editors worked for weeks to devise, refine and collect statistics from 480 public school districts in Pennsylvania for a database that would measure the performance of 37 districts in Northeastern Pennsylvania's seven-county region.
The resulting report card gauges each district's performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test and the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment test for fifth, eighth and eleventh grades reading and math.
We rank schools in individual categories to allow readers to measure performance in those areas most important to their child's education. The analysis and rankings represent a small part of education and do not attempt to define the overall success of a district or its teachers.
