Nuggets of knowledge: The school's Future Business Leaders club took first place in the regional leadership conference for the fourth year in a row in January. The marching band won the Atlantic Coast Tournament of Bands competition for an unprecedented fourth year in a row in November.

The district recently began a study-buddy program, pairing fifth and sixth grade students with elementary classes. Nuggets of knowledge: The district is in the third year of its peer meditation counseling program, which helps students in grades 7-12 cope with problems. The school is developing a school safety plan that will cover all emergency situations from basic security measures to school violence. For the first time, the regionwide McKelvey Foundation awarded two full college scholarships to students at Montrose Area High.

Mountain View

Nuggets of knowledge: The district was one three chosen this year to speak on the importance of senior graduation projects at a gathering of legislators, educators and school officials at the state Capitol. The district will start a $12.7-million renovation project this summer to modernize the high school to include new science facilities and new office spaces. The district recently won the inaugural NEIU 19 and Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association Northeast Chapter's Safe Driving Competition and advanced to the state tournament in Camp Hill.

Lackawanna Trail captured the Lackawanna League Division II North championship in boys basketball this year.
