Family Gala To Follow St. Patrick's Day Parade

A family-oriented gala will be conducted in the Scranton Cultural Center following the 39th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade which is scheduled to step off March 11 at 11:30 a.m.

The annual event, co-sponsored by the St. Patrick's Day Parade Association of Lackawanna County, Inc., and the county's Cultural Affairs office, will feature food, refreshments, and music by Donnybrook. Jim Cullen also will perform.

John Keller, the chairman, said bagpipe bands will drop in at the center's ballroom to entertain when they finish marching in the parade.

The deadline for entries in the parade will be Wednesday, Paul Hart, parade chairman, and Dave Clark, parade director, announced.

"We have a strong selection of musical units this year," Mr. Clark said, "but we still have room for participants."

Applications can be obtained through the association's Web page (stpatparade.com.) or by writing to Post Office Box 374, Scranton 18501.

Association President Bill King said sponsors are still needed to meet the $25,000 it costs to put on the parade.

"This is the largest single-day event in the city," he said. "Financial help is needed to keep it the first-class parade it has always been."

John Brazil announced the following high school bands will participate: Valley View, Scranton, West Scranton, Dunmore, Pittston Area, Wyoming Valley West, Wyoming Area, Carbondale Area and North Pocono.
