Friendly Sons Select Toastmaster for Dinner

David L. Tressler will serve as toastmaster at the 95th annual dinner of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Lackawanna County which will be conducted March 17 at Genetti Manor, Dickson City, according to society president Patrick J. Sheridan.

Well known in the local community, Mr. Tressler enjoyed a successful career in the banking industry before turning to other pursuits, first as executive director of the University of Scranton's Center for Public Initiatives and more recently as executive director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Physicians Organization, which is based in Clarks Summit.

A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in education, Mr. Tressler earned a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh and attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
He began his banking career at Pittsburgh National Bank before joining Northeastern Bank of Pennsylvania in 1975.

His career steadily progressed with Northeastern and he eventually became chairman and chief executive officer of that bank. When Northeastern was acquired by PNC Financial Corp., he became vice chairman and a board member of that firm.

Active in a variety of professional, civic and community activities, he is a director of Fidelity Deposit and Discount Bank and PHICO Insurance Co. and serves as chairman of AAA North Penn.

He is a member of the Penn State's advisory board, a trustee of Keystone College, president of the Pocono Northeast Development Fund and a member of the Panuska College of Professional Studies board of visitors at the University of Scranton.

In addition, Mr. Tressler is a member and director of the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, a board member and former chairman of The Scranton Club, a board member and former president of the Scranton Cultural Center, former chairman of the Pennsylvania Council on Economic Education and a former board member of the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

He sits on the boards of Catholic Social Services, Friendship House, Telespond Senior Services, United Way of Pennsylvania, the Economic Opportunity Training Center and St. Francis Kitchen, where he is a former chairman.

Mr. Tressler also is a member of the executive committee of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Lackawanna County.
