St. Patrick's Parade Group Seeking Sponsors for 39th Event

The St. Patrick's Day Parade Association of Lackawanna County, Inc., is starting its annual drive for funds to put on the event scheduled this year for March 11.

President Bill King said it will cost at least $25,000 to stage the 39th annual parade. He urges everyone who can to help the non-profit organization in again presenting the extravaganza -- the largest one-day happening in downtown Scranton.

Mr. King said there are five established categories for monetary contributions although any donation will be welcome. They are:

Corporate sponsorships of $2,500. Joe Gilhooley chairs that committee.

Division sponsorships of $600. Patrick Murphy, Dr. Tim Regan, Mr. Gilhooley, Bob Osborne and Sean Hanlon are spearheading that effort.

VIP memberships of $150. Gene Cosgrove and Joe Corcoran are in charge.

Shamrocks of $25. They are short announcements which are rolled across the television screen by WOLF-TV during its coverage of the parade. The committee is composed of Dan Lavelle, Tom Hallinan, Don Regan and Mr. Corcoran.

Association memberships of $15. Bill Jenkins and Brian Kelly are in charge.

Anyone interested in helping can contact any association member, write to Post Office Box 374, Scranton 18501, or visit the organization's web page at stpatparade.com., where further information can be obtained.

Mr. King announced the Keystone String Band from Schuylkill County will again participate in the parade.

The association will meet today at 4 p.m. in the Lackawanna County Domestic Relations Building in the 400 block of North Washington Avenue.
