Barons finale a mere formality

   PAWTUCKET, R. I. -- The final battle of the regular season went to the Pawtucket Red Sox. Sunday's meaningless skirmish saw the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons manage just five base hits in their final tuneup before taking on Charlotte Wednesday in the opening round of the International League playoffs.

    The Red Barons defeated the Buffalo Bisons 5-4 Saturday in the first game of a double-header to claim the championship of the International League North.

   SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Joel Bennett had his best start in a month, Wendell Magee Jr. ran down what could have been the game-winning flyball in the ninth and Pat Burrell, Darren Burton and Lou Lucca ripped impressive home runs to help the Red Barons to a 10-inning, 8-3 win over the Syracuse SkyChiefs at P&C Stadium.

Estalella Leads Red Barons to Win

   Catcher Bobby Estalella's homer lifted Scranton/Wilkes-Barre into sole possession of first place with just over a week remaining in the season. The Red Barons beat the Lynx, 6-5, Saturday night at Lackawanna County Stadium.

Pawtucket knocks off Barons

Lucca rewards pitching staff

   OTTAWA, Ontario -- For the second straight night, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons received a strong effort from their pitching staff. The only difference Wednesday night was that they rewarded the staff with a victory.
