Penguins Close Season With Win

   WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP -- This was not an ending, but rather a beginning. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins closed out their inaugural campaign Saturday night with a 3-2 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs before 8,233 fans at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

   PHILADELPHIA -- It has to be the stick. Ray Whitney of the Florida Panthers loaned one of his sticks to Ian Moran of the Pittsburgh Penguins. When it proved not to be suited to Moran's liking, he gave the stick to teammate Tyler Wright.

   HAMILTON, Ontario -- Michel Riesen's two goals in the final 8 minutes lifted the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-3 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday night at Copps Coliseum.

   PHILADELPHIA -- After spotting the Philadelphia Phantoms a three-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes, the Penguins staged an improbable comeback in the second period to rally for a 5-3 victory before 11,594 fans at the First Union Spectrum Sunday.

   WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP -- Albany scored three third-period goals to post a 5-2 victory before 8,151 fans and, in the process, extend its lead over the Penguins in the division to 15 points. The loss makes the Penguins' chances of making the playoffs next to impossible.

Andrew Ference had a goal and an assist and goalie Ryan Bach stopped 46 of 47 shots to lead the Penguins to a 4-1 victory over the Amerks Saturday night before a crowd of 8,206 at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

Americans extend unbeaten streak to 14 games
  
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Several moves by the parent Buffalo Sabres left the Rochester Americans with only 15 skaters for Friday night's game. That still was more than enough to defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-2, at the Blue Cross War Memorial Arena.
