Climb
until
your
heart's
content,
kids.
Scranton's
Prescott
Elementary
School
recently
received
an
$8,000
from
the
PSSA
Incentive
Grant
Program
for
increasing
its
standardized
math
scores
in
the
past
year,
with
$4,000
going
toward
the
purchase
of
a climbing
wall
for
the
school
gymnasium.
Charged
with
using
the
money
in
a way
that
benefited
every
student,
health
and
physical
education
teacher
Mary
Ann
Yonchiuk
suggested
a climbing
wall
patterned
after
the
one
at
Charles
Sumner
Elementary
School.
In
just
its
second
week
since
installation,
the
wall
has
already
become
a favorite
of
students.
"The
kids
have
learned
to
use
the
wall
better
than
I guessed
they
would
have,"
said
Miss
Yonchiuk.
"It
really
helps
them
physically
and
helps
them
build
confidence."
"Climbing
helps
make
your
muscles
in
your
arms
and
hands
stronger,"
said
student
Vicki
Dougher,
9.
"It's
challenging
and
you
have
to
work
really
hard.
You
never
know
how
far
across
your
going
to
get,"
added
Aurora
Kelly,
9.
The
students
have
even
taken
to
naming
some
of
the
holds
on
the
wall,
based
on
what
they
resemble
to
the
kids.
There's
"The
Nose
Rock,"
"The
Broccoli
Rock,"
"The
Mushroom,"
"The
Lips"
and
so
on.
