Who says girls can't play ice
hockey?
For the past few years, the Lady
Pocono Pirates have been putting that chauvinistic theory to
shame.
Based out of Pittston's Ice Box,
the team is made up of about 13 girls between the ages of 9 and
19, who practice every week and play 10 to 14 games a year as a
developmental member of the Delaware Valley Hockey League.
For away games, the team has been
known to travel all the way to Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Hershey
and Princeton, N.J.
The girls are prohibited from
checking, "but still, there's all the pushing and shoving
of regular hockey," according to assistant coach Al
Sanfanandre.
The Lady Pirates are always open
to new players. For more information, contact the Ice Box.
